Nigeria’s WAFCON preparations suffer another setback as Jamaica withdraws from a planned friendly against the Super Falcons ahead of the 2026 tournament in Morocco.
The match was scheduled to take place during the Super Falcons’ training camp from May 23 to 28, with the Nigeria Football Federation aiming to keep the squad active despite the absence of an official FIFA international window.
Jamaica’s withdrawal has now disrupted those plans, adding to concerns over the team’s limited build-up ahead of the 2026 WAFCON in Morocco, which will hold from July 26 to August 16 after being postponed from March.
The Super Falcons, who are 10-time African champions, won their latest title after a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over hosts Morocco last year.
Since securing qualification for the tournament in October 2025, Nigeria’s women’s team has gathered only once for a two-legged friendly against Cameroon in Yaoundé. The Falcons lost the first game 1-0 before bouncing back with a 3-1 victory in the second leg.
Players have continued to express frustration over the lack of adequate preparation, especially as the tournament will also serve as qualifiers for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Captain Rasheedat Ajibade recently questioned the seriousness of the team’s preparations, while goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie also raised concerns after the Super Eagles secured warm-up fixtures for the Unity Cup in the UK.
Nigeria have been drawn in Group C alongside Zambia, Egypt and debutants Malawi for the tournament in Morocco.
