The Galatasaray Osimhen captaincy decision has emerged as club officials consider giving the captain’s armband to Victor Osimhen if they choose not to keep Mauro Icardi, according to Turkish football pundit Ali Naci Kucuk. Kucuk stated that Galatasaray actively weighs Osimhen as a leading candidate for the captaincy role.
Kucuk revealed that Galatasaray plans to promote Osimhen to captain if the club does not continue with Icardi.
The Galatasaray Osimhen captaincy decision reflects Osimhen’s strong impact during his spell in Turkey, where he drives Galatasaray to successive league titles and a Turkish Cup victory while scoring over 50 goals across competitions.
Osimhen delivers another impressive season with 15 league goals and five assists in 22 matches, along with seven goals and three assists in 10 UEFA Champions League appearances before Galatasaray exit the competition against Liverpool in the round of 16.
Club officials and fans view the potential captaincy as recognition of Osimhen’s leadership influence in the dressing room, not just his goal-scoring output.
Osimhen also joins teammates in a courtesy visit to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara after Galatasaray secure their 26th league title, with president Dursun Ozbek presenting the club jersey during the visit.
Despite transfer links to Chelsea, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich, Galatasaray insist they will not sell Osimhen cheaply and value him above €100 million.
