The Flying Eagles WAFU B U-20 title defence begins today, July 27, as Nigeria face arch-rivals Ghana at the Lycée Scientifique Stadium in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire.
The match is a repeats of last match, where Nigeria defeated Ghana 2-1 at Stade de Kégué in Lomé to retain the trophy they first won in Niamey.
Head coach Abdu Maikaba said his team must win the opening match to stay on course for a third consecutive WAFU B U-20 Championship title.
Maikaba said the Flying Eagles WAFU B U-20 title defence will start strongly because his players are fully prepared and determined to beat Ghana.
A win over the Black Satellites would boost Nigeria’s hopes of reaching the semi-finals from the four-team Group B.
Nigeria will face Togo’s Sparrow Hawks on July 30 in their second Group B match at the same venue. Kick-off is 2:00 p.m. local time (3:00 p.m. Nigeria time).
