The Super Falcons bounced back from their opening defeat to beat Zambia 1-0 in their second Group C match at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Rabat, Morocco. The win earned Nigeria their first three points of the tournament.
Asisat Oshoala scored the only goal early in the game to hand the defending champions a vital victory. Nigeria protected the lead despite playing most of the match with 10 players.
Nigeria’s task became tougher before halftime when defender Oluwatosin Demehin received a straight red card. The dismissal forced the Super Falcons to play the rest of the match with one player fewer.
Despite the setback, the Super Falcons remained disciplined in defence and frustrated Zambia throughout the second half. Nigeria also made key substitutions, including the introduction of Chinwendu Ihezuo, to maintain their shape and break up Zambia’s attacks.
Nigeria will face Egypt in their final Group C match on Matchday 3. The Super Falcons need another positive result to secure automatic qualification for the WAFCON knockout stage.
