Seyi Makinde has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election under a PDP/APM alliance.
Speaking at a rally at Mapo Hall in Ibadan on Thursday, Makinde announced his candidacy before supporters and political stakeholders from across the country.
“Today, I, Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, FNSE, announce my candidacy for the position of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria under the PDP/APM alliance,” he said.
With the declaration, Makinde joins other opposition figures expected to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027, including Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, Peter Obi, and Adewole Adebayo.
Seyi Makinde warned that Nigeria was gradually drifting toward a one-party state, saying democracy would be threatened if opposition parties failed to unite.
“We have witnessed continuous meddling in the affairs of opposition parties with the aim of taking Nigeria to a one-party system. Without a multiparty system, there is no democracy,” he said.
The governor also criticised the country’s economic and security situation, urging Nigerians to reject political apathy and become more involved in shaping the nation’s future.
He added that the PDP/APM alliance was the beginning of a broader opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
