The withdrawal of Siminalayi Fubara from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries scheduled for Thursday, May 21, has been announced by the Rivers State governor. The decision, according to Fubara, was reached after deep reflection and extensive consultations with family members, friends, and political associates.
A statement released by the governor disclosed that a difficult but necessary decision had been taken for the sake of unity within the party and the state. Support was also pledged to whoever emerges as the candidate of the APC in the forthcoming gubernatorial contest.
According to Fubara, the Fubara APC primaries withdrawal was driven by sacrifice and conviction rather than fear or weakness. It was stated that the peace, stability, and unity of Rivers State must be placed above personal ambition at this critical moment in the state’s political journey.
Gratitude was equally expressed to supporters who remained loyal throughout the political process despite the sacrifices made along the way. Disappointment and pain being experienced by many supporters were acknowledged, while it was stressed that silence maintained over the period had been deliberate and strategic in the overall interest of Rivers State.
The governor further noted that immense pressure and difficult choices had been faced behind the scenes, but wisdom and restraint had been embraced to preserve peace and avoid further political tension in the state.
Appreciation was also extended to the APC for the platform provided during the process, while special thanks were conveyed to Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the encouragement and support received.
Fubara maintained that commitment to serving the people of Rivers State would continue until the completion of his tenure, while party faithful were urged to remain united and dedicated to the progress of the APC.
