Senator David Mark has said the exit of former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will only strengthen the party’s resolve ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Wednesday at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja during a meeting with the Forum of ADC former and serving federal lawmakers, Mark admitted that the defections would have an impact on the party but insisted they would motivate members to work harder.“
No doubt, the exit of Obi and Kwankwaso has its impact, but it will spur us to work harder,” he said.
The ADC national chairman also assured Nigerians that the party would field credible candidates capable of winning elections in 2027, expressing confidence that the current challenges facing the party would ultimately make it stronger.
Earlier, ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi dismissed concerns over the defection of some lawmakers from the party, maintaining that its core structures remain intact.
According to Abdullahi, the lawmakers who left were simply aligning with political figures they believe could improve their electoral chances.“
The people who left followed their idols whom they believe would help them win elections. We wish them good luck, but the core structures of our party remain intact,” he said.
