Alex Otti has declared that the Labour Party (LP) has emerged stronger and more united after overcoming its internal crisis, expressing confidence in the party’s readiness for the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Thursday while observing the inaugural meeting of the party’s newly elected National Working Committee (NWC) at its national headquarters, the Abia State governor said the challenges that once threatened the party’s stability had been resolved.
“The worst is over. We can’t see anything worse than what we have gone through,” Otti stated, noting that the party has become more cohesive and better positioned for future contests.
The new NWC, led by Nenadi Usman, emerged from the party’s elective national convention held on April 28 in Umuahia.
Otti stressed the need for unity and discipline within party ranks, urging the leadership to maintain coordinated communication and avoid actions that could reignite internal divisions.
“There is no victor and no vanquished — everyone is a winner. Our focus now is reconciliation, reintegration, and building a stronger party,” he said.
He revealed that reconciliation efforts were already yielding positive results, with more than 25 state chairmen from opposing factions attending the convention, some of whom have been integrated into the new leadership structure.
“Our doors remain open to all, including those who left. The goal is to rebuild and move forward together,” he added.
Reaffirming the party’s commitment to the 2027 elections, Otti expressed optimism that the Labour Party would present a formidable presidential candidate.
He also commended the convention planning committee for organising a peaceful and rancour-free exercise, pledging continued support for the new leadership.
Earlier, members of the NWC praised Otti’s role in stabilising the party during its crisis, describing his leadership as instrumental in preserving the Labour Party as a viable political force. They also pledged loyalty and commitment to repositioning the party as a credible alternative ahead of future elections.
