Alia Plans Upgrade of Mbatie Agricultural Training Centre to Higher Institution

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has announced plans to upgrade the Mbatie Agricultural Training Centre in Buruku Local Government Area into a higher institution. The institution will train agricultural extension workers and improve farming practices across the state.

Governor Alia made this known on Wednesday in Buruku during his ongoing town hall meetings across the state’s 11 federal constituencies.

He said the proposed institution would strengthen agricultural extension services. It would also produce skilled workers who can take modern farming knowledge, government policies and innovations to farmers, especially in rural areas.

According to Alia, competent extension workers are vital to improving agricultural productivity. They will help farmers adopt better production methods, use inputs properly and access important technical knowledge.

The governor therefore directed the Commissioners for Works, Kuma Aii Iyenge, and Education, Dr. Margaret Ijaguwa Adamu, to begin the upgrade process. He also ordered them to ensure the project is completed as quickly as possible.

Meanwhile, Alia said his administration had recruited 9,700 primary school teachers. However, he added that the government planned to employ more teachers for primary and secondary schools to address manpower shortages.

The governor also urged Benue residents to put unity and collective interests above political differences. He stressed that peace and cooperation remain important for sustainable development.

Furthermore, Alia called on residents, particularly those in Buruku, to embrace agriculture as a major economic activity. He said greater investment in the sector could create jobs, increase household incomes and strengthen the state’s economy.

The Chairman of Buruku Local Government Council, Raymond Zege, commended the governor for his interventions. He also appealed for the establishment of a science secondary school in the area.

Similarly, the Ter Buruku, His Royal Highness Moses Hanior; Mue Ter Mbanyam, Tivfa Addingi; and District Head of Mbakyongu, Chief Nikwagh Toryough, praised the administration for its achievements.

They also called for stronger cooperation between the Jechira and Jemgbagh blocs. According to them, greater unity would promote peace and development in the area.
