A Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed June 15 to rule on an application by the EFCC seeking to tender an extra-judicial statement by a prosecution witness in the ongoing trial of former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.
Bello, who is facing a 19-count money laundering charge, opposed the move through his lawyer, arguing that admitting the statement would violate provisions of the Evidence Act.
During Thursday’s proceedings, the 14th prosecution witness, Shehu Bello, testified about properties in Maitama and Wuse II, Abuja, allegedly linked to Ali Bello, said to be an associate of the former governor.
The EFCC is prosecuting Bello over an alleged N80.2 billion fraud involving the acquisition of luxury properties in Abuja and Dubai, as well as alleged money laundering offences. Bello has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
