Zenith Bank Inter-School Swimming Gala Holds Today as 20 Schools Compete

The Zenith Bank Inter-School Swimming Gala will hold today at the Swimming Section of Ikoyi Club 1938, with about 20 schools set to compete in one of Nigeria’s leading grassroots swimming competitions.

At the Zenith Bank Inter-School Swimming Gala, young swimmers will compete in Freestyle, Breaststroke, Backstroke, Butterfly, and Individual Medley events across different age categories for primary and secondary school students. Organisers continue to use the competition to discover and develop the next generation of swimming talents in Nigeria.

Chairman of the Swimming Section of Ikoyi Club 1938, Akinbulejo Onabolu, said the Zenith Bank Inter-School Swimming Gala gives young athletes opportunities that extend beyond competition.

“It has always been a joy for us to welcome young swimmers to Ikoyi Club and watch them grow in a competitive but supportive environment.

“Beyond the competition itself, we value the friendships, discipline, confidence, and exposure that these young athletes gain through events like this. These experiences contribute significantly to their personal growth and development,” he said.

Onabolu also praised Zenith Bank for consistently supporting the event, describing the partnership as vital to sustaining opportunities for young athletes.

“We are particularly grateful to Zenith Bank for their continued support of youth sports and talent development. Their commitment to this gala over the years demonstrates a genuine investment in the future of young athletes and in the growth of swimming in Nigeria.

“Partnerships like this are critical to building platforms that inspire excellence, encourage healthy competition, and provide opportunities for young people to thrive both in and out of the pool,” he said.
