Putin Reaches Out to Iran Leader, Offers Support After Collapse of US Talks

Russian President Vladimir Putin has stepped into the deepening Middle East crisis, reaching out to Iran’s leader Masoud Pezeshkian on Sunday with an offer to support efforts toward resolving the escalating tensions.

According to the Kremlin, Putin reiterated Moscow’s willingness to assist in finding a diplomatic and political solution, stressing his readiness to help broker a fair and enduring peace in the region.

The call came shortly after negotiations between Iran and the United States broke down in Islamabad, marking a significant setback in efforts to de-escalate the conflict. A US official confirmed that the entire American delegation withdrew from the talks, leaving no representatives behind to continue informal discussions in the Pakistani capital.

Among those present were key figures such as Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who had led extended negotiations that ultimately failed to produce any substantial progress.

Further confirmation came during a stopover at Ramstein Air Base in Germany, where an official traveling with US Vice President JD Vance stated that no members of the negotiating team remained behind, despite earlier indications that talks might continue.

Reacting to the breakdown, Iran’s parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf criticized Washington’s approach, saying it failed to build confidence.

He noted that the Iranian delegation had presented what he described as constructive proposals, but said the US side was unable to earn the trust needed to move discussions forward.

The collapse of the talks underscores growing uncertainty in the region, as diplomatic channels narrow and global powers weigh their next steps.
