Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has urged Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke to sustain good governance after his re-election.
The former president made the call during a congratulatory visit to Adeleke at his country home in Ede.
According to a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Malam Olawale Rasheed, Obasanjo prayed for greater success in Adeleke’s administration.
He urged Adeleke to continue providing good governance and meeting the needs of Osun residents.
“Continue to deliver good governance. Continue to meet the needs of your people,” Obasanjo charged the governor.
Adeleke thanked God and the people of Osun State for his victory.
He also promised to remain committed to serving the people faithfully.
“Baba, I thank you for this surprise visit. I promise never to disappoint God, Osun people and all lovers of democracy who made our victory possible,” he said.
The governor was accompanied by his deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, during the visit.
Adeleke defeated his closest rival, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with 511,067 votes.
Oyebamiji polled 444,815 votes, while Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) came third with 17,180 votes.
The INEC Returning Officer, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, announced the results at the commission’s collation centre.
Ogunwole said voters cast 1,005,800 votes in total. Of the figure, 985,079 were valid, while 20,721 were rejected.
Meanwhile, Adeleke’s re-election sparked celebrations across Osun State.
His supporters took to the streets after INEC declared him the winner of the election. (NAN)
