
Lawmaker representing Surulere Constituency in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Desmond Elliot, has raised alarm over alleged intimidation and the withdrawal of his security aides ahead of the All Progressives Congress (All Progressives Congress) direct primaries in Surulere.
The Desmond Elliot security aides withdrawal Surulere APC primaries controversy emerged after the legislator claimed that his security details were suddenly removed without explanation, leaving him vulnerable at a critical political period. He described the situation as troubling and questioned the reason behind the decision, while calling for clarity from relevant authorities.
In a video shared on his X handle, Elliot alleged that intimidation and coercion were being used to influence the outcome of the upcoming primaries. According to him, some supporters linked to his campaign had also faced pressure and threats, including exclusion from empowerment opportunities if they refused to back a preferred aspirant.
He further claimed that the Desmond Elliot security aides withdrawal Surulere APC primaries situation is part of a broader pattern of political hostility in the area, alleging that some individuals had even lost their jobs due to their perceived loyalty to him. He also accused local authorities of openly backing another aspirant ahead of the exercise.
Elliot appealed to party leaders to ensure a peaceful, fair, and transparent process, warning against any attempt to incite violence during the primaries scheduled for May 20, 2026. He urged his supporters to remain calm and participate without fear, insisting that internal democracy must be respected within the party.
