A political group has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu can win over Southeast voters ahead of the 2027 presidential election. The group believes the All Progressives Congress (APC) can challenge Peter Obi’s strong political influence in the region.
Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, secured significant support across the Southeast. His performance established him as a major political force in the region.
According to The PUNCH, the Ndigbo for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu Forum (NDI-ABAT) argued that no political party or candidate should consider the Southeast its permanent stronghold.
The group cited the 2003 presidential election as an example. It noted that former President Olusegun Obasanjo won all five Southeast states despite the candidacy of the late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu. The forum said the result showed that voters in the region could change their political choices.
The group urged Tinubu and APC leaders to address the concerns of Southeast residents. It called for better infrastructure, economic opportunities, fair political representation and inclusive governance.
It also advised the APC to strengthen its grassroots structures across Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states. The group stressed that campaign rallies and political endorsements alone would not guarantee electoral success.
The forum maintained that Tinubu can win over Southeast voters if his administration earns their trust and responds to their needs. It urged the ruling party to engage communities directly and address longstanding regional concerns before the 2027 election.
