APC By-Election Victories Extend Party’s Gains in Nasarawa, Kano, Enugu, Ondo

The APC by-election victories boosted the party’s influence after it won key contests in Nasarawa, Enugu, Kano, Ondo and Kebbi states during Saturday’s polls. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), however, retained the Rivers South-East Senatorial District seat.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the results on Sunday. The outcomes expanded the APC’s legislative presence, although some elections drew complaints of irregularities, violence and voter intimidation.

In Nasarawa, the APC by-election victories continued as Danladi Halilu defeated Labour Party candidate Labaran Maku and PDP candidate Emmanuel Ombugadu to secure the Nasarawa North Senatorial seat.

The ruling party also won the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency by-election in Kano, where Rabiu Shuaibu recorded a landslide victory.

APC candidate Ikeje Asogwa emerged winner in the Enugu North Senatorial District by-election. The party also claimed victories in Ondo and Kebbi.

In Rivers State, PDP candidate Olaka Nwogu retained the Rivers South-East Senatorial seat after defeating his closest APC rival across seven local government areas.

Halilu polled 45,362 votes to win the Nasarawa North contest.

The Returning Officer, Prof. Aminu Ali, announced the result at the College of Education, Akwanga, after collation from Akwanga, Nasarawa Eggon and Wamba local government areas.

Ali said Halilu scored 45,362 votes, while Maku received 12,931 votes and Ombugadu secured 11,570 votes.

He officially declared Halilu the winner after meeting all legal requirements.

Meanwhile, Labour Party agents staged a walkout at the collation centre to protest the result and the collation process.

Dr. Ben Ango led the protest after officials completed collation from the three local government areas.

Maku also rejected the outcome and called for the cancellation of the election, alleging widespread irregularities.
