The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has reported a 73.3 per cent drop in military attacks across Nigeria in October 2026. Troops recorded 98 incidents, compared to 367 in September.
The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Michael Onoja, disclosed this in Abuja on Friday. He spoke while briefing journalists on military operations across the country.
The October figures showed a major decline across several military operations. Operation Enduring Peace recorded 147 attacks in September, while Operation Fansan Yamma recorded 115. Operation Whirl Stroke had 55 incidents, followed by Operation Hadin Kai with 33. Operation Savannah Shield recorded 13, while Operation Udo Ka recorded four. Operation Delta Safe reported none.
Despite the reduction, the military recorded major successes during its October operations. The 73.3 per cent drop in military attacks came alongside the neutralisation of more than 217 terrorists and criminals. Troops also arrested 333 suspects and rescued 349 kidnapped victims.
Onoja added that 70 insurgents surrendered to troops during the operations. Security personnel also recovered 105 arms and 3,174 rounds of ammunition.
The military further intensified its fight against crude oil theft. Troops recovered 756,837 litres of stolen crude oil products. They also destroyed 49 illegal refining sites.
However, Onoja expressed condolences to the government and people of Taraba State over the killing of civilians in terrorist attacks. The incident occurred in Binari, Karim Lamido Local Government Area, on October 23.
He said the military remained committed to tackling terrorism, kidnapping, oil theft and other criminal activities.
Although the decline in attacks signals progress, the recent killings in Taraba highlight the challenges that remain. The military must sustain its operations, strengthen intelligence gathering and protect vulnerable communities. Nigerians expect these efforts to translate into lasting security, safer communities and an end to violent attacks across the country.
