The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has started distributing sensitive materials for the Ekiti Governorship Election scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026.
INEC officials sorted the materials at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) office in Ado-Ekiti. They will move the materials to all 16 local government areas for the governorship poll and several senatorial and federal constituency by-elections.
Speaking on the exercise, Ekiti Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Bunmi Omoseyindemi, said the process has gone smoothly. He assured stakeholders that officials would deliver all materials on time. INEC also disclosed that registered voters increased from 987,647 in 2023 to 1,059,360 in 2026.
Ahead of the Ekiti Governorship Election, INEC reported a rise in Permanent Voter Card (PVC) collection. National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, said PVC collection increased from 958,052 in 2023 to 1,028,929 in 2026.Haruna said the figure represents about 97 percent of registered voters. In a statement issued on June 17, 2026, he confirmed that INEC had successfully completed PVC distribution before the election.
On Saturday, voters will choose between Governor Biodun Oyebanji and 13 other candidates. More than one million registered voters are expected to participate across the state’s 16 local government areas.
The election also features four female deputy governorship candidates, reflecting increased participation by women in the state’s political process.
