The Police dismiss ‘bandit invasion’ rumours in Lagos, as the Lagos State Police Command debunks viral social media posts claiming armed bandits attacked communities such as Ibeju-Lekki, Imota, and Oke-Afo, targeting schools and residents.
In a statement released on Monday, the Command described the viral alerts as false, misleading, and unfounded. It confirmed that no coordinated attack or security breach is taking place in any Lagos community or school.
The Police dismiss ‘bandit invasion’ rumours in Lagos, urging residents to ignore the false claims and avoid panic. The Command said the misinformation triggered a mob attack that killed 24-year-old commercial motorcyclist Kulaha Ayuba, who residents wrongly identified as a bandit.
Police said youths assaulted Ayuba after labelling him a “Fulani bandit.” His body was later found in a swamp, while his motorcycle was reportedly stolen.
The Command confirmed that 15 suspects have been arrested in connection with the killing. It said investigations are ongoing and promised that all offenders will face prosecution.
Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai urged residents to stay calm, remain vigilant, and report suspicious activity through official channels. He also assured Lagosians that security remains strong across the state.
