Atiku Slams Tinubu Over Fresh Wave of Killings

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to rise to the growing security challenges facing the country, following a fresh wave of violent attacks across several states.

Atiku’s remarks come in the wake of recent killings in parts of Plateau State, Kaduna State, Katsina State, Benue State, and Nasarawa State, which occurred shortly after the President met with grieving families of victims from the Angwan Rukuba attack in Jos.

During that meeting at Yakubu Gowon Airport, Tinubu had assured victims that such an incident would not happen again, stating that while no amount of money could compensate for their loss, he would ensure the tragedy would not be repeated.

However, within days of that promise, fresh attacks were reported, including a deadly incident in Benue State that claimed over a dozen lives, alongside renewed violence in other affected regions.

Reacting via his official social media platforms, Atiku criticized the recurrence of violence, describing the President’s earlier assurance as ineffective in light of the continued bloodshed. He urged Tinubu, as Commander-in-Chief, to “brace up to the challenges of governance” and take decisive action.

He further expressed concern over reports from Nasarawa, where residents have reportedly fled their communities on foot due to fears of impending attacks, as well as fresh violence recorded in Kaduna over the weekend.“

The primary responsibility of government is the protection of lives and property and the promotion of the welfare of citizens,” Atiku stated, calling for an end to what he described as “hollow rhetoric” and urging the administration to take concrete steps toward restoring security.

The former Vice President also extended his condolences to families who lost loved ones in the attacks, noting that his thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time.
