Osimhen dismisses Galatasaray exit rumours after Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle’s comments sparked fresh speculation about his future at Galatasaray. The Nigerian striker said he has no immediate plans to leave the Turkish champions.
Chelle made the remarks while explaining Osimhen’s withdrawal from Nigeria’s squad for the upcoming friendlies against Poland and Portugal.
The coach suggested that the forward could be considering a transfer, saying he was “maybe trying to change clubs.” However, the Super Eagles media team later clarified the statement.
Osimhen dismisses Galatasaray exit rumours and insisted that people misunderstood Chelle’s comments. He addressed the issue in a post on Instagram.
“I just got off the phone with Coach Eric Chelle regarding the comments about me in his recent interview,” Osimhen wrote.
“Unfortunately, his words have been taken out of context and blown out of proportion. He has great respect for Galatasaray, follows most of our games and never intended to create any controversy.
“I appreciate the conversation, the opportunity to always represent my country, and I look forward to continuing to work with him.
“He is a great coach whom I respect a lot, and I kindly ask everyone to disregard the speculation surrounding this matter. Thank you for your consistent support.”
Reports had linked Osimhen with a summer move after another outstanding season with Galatasaray.
The 27-year-old scored 15 league goals and provided five assists in 22 matches as the club retained the Turkish league title.
He also scored seven goals and added three assists in the UEFA Champions League, helping Galatasaray reach the round of 16.
Recent reports linked him with Manchester United, where he reportedly tops the club’s striker shortlist for the summer transfer window.
However, sources close to the player said he would only leave if Galatasaray decide to part ways with him.
Galatasaray reportedly value the striker at €150m after signing him from Napoli for €75m last summer.
