Troops of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies have arrested 46 suspected irregular immigrants in Ogun State during a coordinated security operation.
The spokesperson for the 35 Artillery Brigade, Idereghi Samuel Akari, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Sunday.
Akari said troops launched the operation on June 11, 2026, and apprehended the suspects in Ijebu Imushin, Ijebu Ilese, and nearby communities.
Preliminary findings showed that the Ogun irregular immigrants had allegedly lived in the state for about six months without valid immigration documents.
“During interrogation, the suspects claimed to be merchants and workers affiliated with QNet, an online marketing platform involved in the sale of various commodities,” he said.
The suspects include 18 citizens of Burkina Faso, 23 from Côte d’Ivoire, four from Togo, and one from Senegal. They comprise 36 men and 10 women.
Akari added that authorities have transferred the suspects to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Ogun State Command, for further investigation and necessary administrative action under the law.
