Imo APC Senatorial Primary Election: Uzodimma Defeats Okorocha in Landslide Victory

Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has emerged winner of the Imo APC senatorial primary election for Imo West Senatorial District (Orlu Zone), defeating former Governor Rochas Okorocha in a landslide victory.

The Imo APC senatorial primary election held under the All Progressives Congress saw Uzodimma secure a massive 230,464 votes, while Okorocha polled just 1,098 votes in the Option A4 exercise conducted on Monday.

According to results announced at the collation centre in Orlu Local Government Area by the Chairman and Returning Officer of the National Assembly APC Primary Election Committee for Imo State, Rear Admiral Williams Kayode (retd.), Uzodimma recorded a sweeping win across all 12 local government areas in Orlu Zone.

In other senatorial districts, aspirants in Imo North and Imo East reportedly stepped down in favour of consensus candidates Alex Mbata and incumbent senator Patrick Ndubueze.

However, in Orlu Zone, Okorocha insisted on contesting against the governor despite calls for consensus among party stakeholders.

The APC, in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Onwuasoanya Jones, said voting was conducted across the state’s 305 wards, while collation of results continued at senatorial district centres.

The party also commended the role of INEC officials, security agencies, and party members who participated in ensuring the smooth conduct of the exercise, describing some aspirants who withdrew as contributors to party unity and stability.
