Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, Resigns

Abuja — In a surprise move, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has officially resigned from his position. His resignation letter, dated March 26, 2026, was submitted to President Bola Tinubu through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

In the letter, Adelabu stated that he was stepping down to focus on his political ambitions, specifically his intention to run for the governorship of Oyo State.

The resignation marks a significant shift in the ministry, as Adelabu has been a key figure in Nigeria’s power sector, involved in ongoing reforms and initiatives aimed at improving electricity distribution and generation.

Political observers say his exit signals the start of what could be a highly contested governorship race in Oyo State, as other prominent politicians prepare their campaigns for the 2026 elections.

The Federal Government has yet to announce a replacement for the Minister of Power, leaving the ministry’s leadership in temporary limbo.
