Atiku Accuses INEC of Bias, Vows to Defend Democracy

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has alleged that Nigeria’s electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), is being manipulated, raising fresh concerns about the state of democracy in the country.

Speaking at the ADC convention on Tuesday, Atiku said it was “evident” that INEC was not operating independently, suggesting undue influence in the nation’s electoral process.

He warned the federal government that Nigerians have a history of resisting undemocratic systems, recalling the struggle against military rule. According to him, citizens are ready to take a stand again if necessary to safeguard democratic values.

“We resisted military rule to establish democracy, and we are prepared to challenge the government again to defend and restore it,” he declared.

Atiku’s remarks come amid growing political tensions and debates over electoral transparency and governance in Nigeria. His comments are likely to spark reactions from both government officials and electoral authorities, as discussions around the credibility of elections continue to dominate the political landscape.
