Police Arrest Baruwa After NURTW Secretariat Takeover

Tension has escalated within the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) following the arrest of its factional leader, Tajudeen Baruwa, shortly after he took control of the union’s national secretariat.

Baruwa was reportedly apprehended by security operatives after leading his supporters to occupy the NURTW headquarters in Abuja. The move is believed to be part of an ongoing leadership tussle within the union, which has been plagued by internal disputes in recent months.

Sources indicate that the police intervened to restore order at the secretariat amid fears of a breakdown of law and order. While details surrounding the arrest remain unclear, authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the development.

The crisis within the union has pitched Baruwa against loyalists of former president, Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, further deepening divisions among members.

Observers say the latest development could have significant implications for the leadership structure of the union, as stakeholders await further updates from law enforcement agencies and union officials.
