Fuel price increase: Makinde approves N10,000 transport allowance for workers

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has approved a N10,000 transport allowance for workers in the state to help ease the impact of rising petrol prices.

The Oyo State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Kayode Martins, made this known in a statement issued on Monday, March 23. He said the approval followed a request by the union for support to address transportation challenges faced by workers.

According to the statement, the state government agreed to provide the allowance after receiving a formal appeal from the NLC earlier in the day.

The new allowance will take effect from April 2026 and is expected to provide relief for workers struggling with increasing transport costs due to the current economic situation.

The move is seen as a response to ongoing efforts by the NLC to reduce the burden of rising living expenses on workers. More details on how the allowance will be implemented are expected to be announced by the appropriate authorities soon.
