The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) insists primaries hold May 29 nationwide, despite Eid-el-Kabir holiday adjustments affecting its Presidential, National Assembly, Governorship, and State Assembly primaries.
Eid-el-Kabir disruptions have strained logistics as flights and transport became unavailable. Many aspirants and screening committee members remain stranded in Abuja after screening.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, NDC insists primaries hold May 29, and National Chairman Senator Moses Cleopas said May 28 will cover arrivals, INEC and security documentation, consultations, and other preparatory work.
Party teams deployed to states will also meet stakeholders, elders, and aspirants on the same day.
Cleopas warned that state institutions and security agencies, including the Police, DSS, and INEC, must not take part in any May 28 activities.
He said any action outside approved guidelines will be treated as illegal and unauthorised.
He said the primaries remain scheduled nationwide for May 29, 2026, under the May 28–29 timetable. He added that Eid holidays disrupted flights and left many aspirants and screening members stranded in Abuja.
He outlined the May 29 process: presidential affirmations, National Assembly primaries or affirmations, State Assembly contests, and governorship primaries.
Cleopas said state results will be collated and sent to the national headquarters for announcement by the National Working Committee.
He added that no state executive or team has the mandate to announce results.
He urged members and aspirants to remain peaceful and orderly, warning that the party will not tolerate violence or disorderly conduct during the primaries.
