The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has called for the immediate removal of the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, over Gbajabiamila sack over PFIPC allegations. The party said his suspension would allow an independent investigation into claims linking him to the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the opposition party said it was worried by allegations made by Prince Mathew Adeniyi Adeyemi, who identified himself as the Director-General of the PFIPC.
The NDC said the claims, if confirmed, could expose serious failures in transparency, accountability, and oversight within the Federal Government.
According to the party, Gbajabiamila sack over PFIPC allegations became necessary after Adeyemi claimed the PFIPC received funds in the 2026 budget and operated a domiciliary account, a pounds sterling account, and a Treasury Single Account with the Central Bank of Nigeria, even though the Presidency said the agency does not exist.
The party questioned how an agency reportedly disowned by the Presidency could open several financial accounts and obtain official approvals.
The NDC also cited claims that the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation approved 314 staff positions for the agency. It called for an investigation to determine whether officials followed due process.
The party further referred to Adeyemi’s allegation that he paid N600 million through intermediaries to secure his appointment, with part of the money allegedly reaching the Chief of Staff. It also mentioned claims that Gbajabiamila requested a share of the agency’s take-off funds.
The NDC noted that no court has established the allegations. It also said Gbajabiamila has not publicly responded to the claims.
The party expressed concern over the reported death of Babatunde Tanimola, described as an intermediary in the matter. It also cited Adeyemi’s claim that he survived several assassination attempts and demanded a full investigation.
The NDC urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to set up an independent panel to investigate all aspects of the Gbajabiamila sack over PFIPC allegations, including the agency’s alleged operations, budget allocations, financial accounts, staff approvals, and related transactions.
The party also called on investigators to question officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, and the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.
It further urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, and the Nigeria Police Force to begin investigations into the allegations.
The NDC insisted that authorities should conduct a transparent investigation and prosecute anyone found guilty after due process.
