Former President Goodluck Jonathan denies N500 billion offer claims made in a viral report. The story alleged he was offered ₦500 billion to contest against Peter Obi in the 2027 election and divide Obi’s support in the South-South region.
Jonathan’s Special Adviser on Media, Dr. Ikechukwu Eze, rejected the report in a statement released on Sunday in Abuja. He described the publication as false, baseless, and misleading.
Eze urged Nigerians to ignore the report. He said an unknown website fabricated the story and wrongly attributed the claim to the former president.
Jonathan denies N500 billion offer because the report provided no evidence. Eze said it failed to state where Jonathan made the alleged comment, when it happened, who witnessed it, or who supposedly made the offer.
He added that the publication carried all the signs of fake news created to mislead the public and drag Jonathan into unnecessary political controversy.
Eze also warned that false reports often increase during election periods. He advised Nigerians to verify sensational political claims before sharing them.
