Justice Rilwan Aikawa of the Federal High Court in Kaduna State has granted bail to former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, as he faces an ongoing corruption trial.
The decision followed earlier adjournments during which both the prosecution and defence presented their arguments.
Under the ruling, El-Rufai’s bail was set at N200 million, requiring two sureties of equal value. The court specified that one surety must be a senior civil servant of at least Grade Level 15, while the other must be a recognised traditional ruler.
Additionally, the court directed the sureties to submit their international passports. El-Rufai was also ordered to appear at all court proceedings and avoid making any public comments related to the case.
Despite the bail approval, he will remain in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) until all conditions attached to the bail are fulfilled.
The former governor is currently facing several charges, including alleged financial misconduct, abuse of office, and mismanagement of public funds during his tenure.
