Iran has been blamed for a missile attack on Bahrain’s largest petroleum refinery, causing a massive explosion and fire that has raised concerns about rising oil prices.
The strike reportedly hit a major oil facility in the kingdom, with videos shared online showing a large fireball at the main refinery operated by the Bahrain Petroleum Company in the Ma’ameer industrial area. Officials described the incident as a ballistic missile attack.
In a statement posted on social media, Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior confirmed that a facility within the oil infrastructure zone in Ma’ameer had been targeted and said relevant authorities were responding to the situation.
Authorities later announced that emergency responders had successfully contained the fire. They added that while there was limited material damage, no casualties were recorded.
The refinery is situated in one of Bahrain’s principal industrial hubs, home to several plants that manufacture petroleum products and other materials such as concrete and asphalt.
The attack represents a further escalation of strikes on oil facilities in the Gulf, developments analysts warn could affect global energy markets. Some military observers suggest the incident may also be connected to Bahrain’s close strategic and security ties with the United States.
